About the Author

Matthew Paul Opperman is the author of Healthy Finds Blog, where he writes educational, science-based content focused on brain health, nutrition, mental health & wellness, and sustainable lifestyle habits.

Born in 1991 and raised in Colorado, Matthew’s work is shaped not only by research but by lived experience. He understands firsthand how profoundly mental and physical health can shape a life—and how transformative, compassionate, evidence-based information can be when someone is searching for answers.

In 2021, Matthew was diagnosed with Psychosis and has spent years navigating schizo-affective disorder (depressive type), major depression, anxiety, and Bipolar disorder. Worst of all, persistent auditory hallucinations telling him to end his life thousands of times a day for 8 years straight… Through years of treatment, learning, and resilience, he developed a deep respect for the brain’s complexity and the human capacity to adapt, heal, and move forward—even under extraordinary pressure and impossible circumstances.

Healthy Finds was created to help others feel less alone and more empowered on their own health journeys. Matthew believes that no one should have to fight for clarity in a world flooded with confusion, fear-based messaging, or misinformation. His goal is to translate reputable medical research into clear, grounded insights that help people make informed choices—without shame, pressure, or false promises.

Matthew writes with a core belief: that healing is rarely linear, strength is often quiet, and progress is built through understanding, patience, and compassion. Whether someone is working to improve their mental health, support brain function, or live a fuller, healthier life, his work is guided by the idea that even against overwhelming odds, positive change is possible.

Outside of writing, Matthew values time with his wife and their dog, Chelsea. He believes that health is ultimately about presence—having the clarity, stability, and energy to spend meaningful time with the people we love and to weather life’s storms with resilience and hope.
